Arthur Conley instantly gathered fame as his breakthrough hit "Sweet Soul Music" conquered the world overnight in 1967. Conley wrote the song together with Otis Redding as an homage to soul music. He namechecks Lou Rawls, Sam & Dave, James Brown, Wilson Pickett and his friend Redding. His first album was named after the track and provided Conley with instant success. "Sweet Soul Music" was eventually covered by artists like The Mohawks, James Brown, José Feliciano, The Jam and Rod Stewart and remains a soul classic for eternity.
