Neil's "country album" was originally rejected in 1982 by Geffen Records, and subsequently lead to a milestone court case where the label complained that his recent output had been too experimental and very un-Neil Young. Old Ways finally secured a release date three years later in 1985 but in a somewhat altered form.
Young was dedicated to the album and spent the best part of 1984 and '85 touring it with his country band, International Harvesters. Produced by longtime collaborator, David Briggs, Old Ways finds Young paying homage to his country routes and contains stand out tracks, "Get Back To The Country", "Bound For Glory" and "The Wayward Wind". Also features contributions from Waylon Jennings on 6 of the 10 songs and a duet with Willie Nelson on "Are There Anymore Real Cowboys ?"
