Magou is from Senegal. In his songs, some of which are like hymns, he lovingly sings the praises of "Mama Africa", appeals to his compatriots to have more self-esteem, demands debt relief for that exploited continent, makes fun of the womanizers in Dakar in an Afro-salsa piece, and celebrates the "Lions" after their victory over the French soccer team.

Magou is accompanied by his group Dakar Transit, including, as second guitarist Baye Diop, percussionist Dr. Ada and Samson Gassama, on the talking drum Badou Sene, and the kora player Tata Dindin, who is currently mesmerizing audiences in André Heller's show "Afrika! Afrika!".
