This LP documents the performance of the legendary Reverend Gary Davis at the Newport Jazz festival in 1965. Davis appears here in perfect solitude, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, his harmonica and his voice, dipping into his plentiful repertoire to pull out one masterpiece after another. Davis is one of the greatest bluesmen who ever lived, and his particular style of finger picking influenced hordes of acoustic guitarists, including Jorma Kaukonen and Stefan Grossman, his faithful disciples. This concert is featured here in its entirety, including the 2 tracks that were removed from the original version ("Soldiers Drill and "Get Along Cindy", featuring Barry Kornfeld).
